Gilded bronze mirror with the Three Graces on the back

The Three Graces are known from Greek mythology as the Charites, three daugthers of Zeus. They are also known as the goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility. These goddesses mostly appear as a trio. The youngest to oldest are called; Aglaea, Euphrosyne and Thalia. Made from bronze, silver, gold and speculum.

“When you grow up as a girl, the world tells you the things that you are supposed to be: emotional, loving, beautiful, wanted. Each year in May, in gratitude for the love, abundance, intuition, and joy that is present in her life, Rabbit offers a ritual celebration in honor of Oshun, the Orisha of sweet waters, love, beauty, and wealth that offers us so many blessings: fresh water to drink, the beauty of the natural world, and the blood in our veins.

This annual event is a beautiful, elegant, and fun-filled celebration with singing, dancing, drumming, storytelling, hors d’oeuvres, fancy water and champagne, and store specials on select items to help draw love, wealth, beauty and healing.

Drop in between 5:00 and 7:00 pm to shop, chat, nibble, sip and socialize. Bring your drum and join us from 7:00 to 9:00 pm as we sit beneath the Colonnades and offer our energies to Lake Merritt, the Oshun of Oakland.

“When most Americans think about “rape culture,” they may think about the victim-blaming attitudes that led the Steubenville boys’ defense to argue that an unconscious girl consented to her sexual assault because she “didn’t say no,” the school administrators who choose to protect their star athletes over those boys’ rape victims, or the bullying that resulted in multiple victims of sexual assault taking their own lives. While those incidences are certainly symptoms of a deeply-rooted rape culture in this country, they’re not the only type of example of this dynamic at play. Rape culture is also evident in the attitudes that lead school administrators to treat young girls’ bodies as inherently “distracting” to the boys who simply can’t control themselves. That approach to gender roles simply encourages our youth to assume that sexual crimes must have something to do with women’s “suggestive” clothes or behavior, rather than teaching them that every individual is responsible for respecting others’ bodily autonomy.”

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!!!

Thus far, my sorors and I have been working hard to spread the word, from our “Teal Tuesdays” (teal is the official color for the commemorative month), to sharing statistics and facts with the student body, to our whiteboard campaign. It was great to see my peers willingly join in and express themselves, as we worked to raise awareness about SAAM. :)

This is just a few of the MANY photos we have taken, posted, and shared…and from what I’ve been informed, our movement has been picked up by the Deltas and our sorors at Bethune-Cookman University, as well.

Service…gotta love it!
